The Symbiotic Relationship Between Neuro-Affirming and Trauma-Informed Approaches

Neuro-affirming and trauma-informed practice are often discussed separately - but can we truly do one without the other?

This thought-provoking session with Jo Roberts (ND SEND Specialists Ltd.) explores why neurodivergent people are disproportionately vulnerable to trauma, how systems themselves can create harm, and why understanding the nervous system is essential to truly affirming practice.

Drawing on current research, lived experience and practical examples, we'll explore concepts including the neuronormative paradigm, neurodiversity-lite, brain-based determinism, systems-generated trauma and Polyvagal Theory. We'll then examine how trauma-aware practice develops into fully trauma-informed systems, and why these approaches are fundamentally interconnected.

Whether you work in education, health, social care or another people-focused profession, you'll leave with a deeper understanding of how to create environments where neurodivergent people no longer need to survive in order to participate.

Suitable for: Education, health, social care and voluntary sector professionals, leaders, and anyone committed to developing genuinely neuro-affirming and trauma-informed practice.

Delivery: Online - half day training.

Cost: £87.50 per person
